Gmail Users: Thanks For The Memory

By Brian Kraemer, CRN June 29, 2009
At Google it's all about more memory. At least, that may be what Gmail and YouTube users are thinking right now after both services got a boost in memory.

Google decided to up the ante on e-mail attachments and the size of YouTube videos over the weekend. Gmail attachments get a boost to a 25 MB max; YouTube's video size limit gets upped to 2 GB.

Google let Gmail users know through the Gmail Help page with a simple message: "You can send and receive messages up to 25 megabytes (MB) in size."

The new 25-MB memory replaces the previous Gmail attachment limit of 20 MB.

The increased size limit on Gmail attachments is another feature that Google is adding to its e-mail offering to make the service more appealing. Gmail Labs continues to roll out new features to enhance the e-mail experience.

Some favorite previous enhancements from Gmail Labs include message translation, undo, beer goggles and embedding YouTube videos in messages.

YouTube users will be pleased they can upload more content to the popular video sharing Web site. Now, in order to upload content to YouTube, the video can be up to 2 GB in size and no longer than 10 minutes.
