Accenture Wins Calif. Healthcare Contract

Accenture has won a $359 million contract to implement California's statewide health insurance exchange, the California Healthcare Enrollment, Eligibility and Retention System (CalHEERS). The healthcare solution will help Californians determine their eligibility for subsidized health benefits, compare insurance plan options and enroll in coverage. Accenture is aiming to complete the project by October 2013, so individuals can begin pre-enrollment in health plans before the January 2014 Federal deadline for all states to implement a health insurance exchange.

DiData Study: Plan For IT Upgrades Or Be Left Behind

Organizations that do not start to plan for upgrades at the core of their networks will likely be brought to a standstill by technology trends such as mobile computing, bring your own device (BYOD), video and virtualization, according to a report released this week by Dimension Data. The 2012 Network Barometer Report found that although many companies are investing so they may connect more mobile devices to their networks, "they may be overlooking the underlying network infrastructure responsible for the distribution and delivery of their communication services," the report stated. According to the research, one-third of all wireless access points discovered during 2011 were 802.11n-capable -- up three times from 2010.
