Oracle Software Eases Data Storage Management Within A Private Cloud

The Oracle Cloud File System extends cloud characteristics to a business's data storage systems by using storage pooling through a network-accessible elastic storage cloud, according to the company.

"Organizations can move beyond expensive, and difficult to manage and scale hardware and storage silos to a highly available, scalable cloud environment that adapts to change in workloads to meet their service level objectives," said Angelo Pruscino, senior vice president of product development, in a statement. "Oracle can begin down the path to a cloud storage environment today with the Oracle Cloud File System."

The Oracle Cloud File System provides pooled storage with unified namespace for applications, operational files and user files, according to Oracle. It creates snapshots and replication of files and file systems for backups and disaster protection, offers data access security and encryption, and enables aggregate management operations using file tags.

Oracle has been aggressively expanding the range of products and services it offers for cloud computing. In September the company debuted its Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud server for running public or private clouds.
