ServerFarm Acquires 5NINES To Expand Data Center Global Reach

‘We built ServerFarm because we recognised that global enterprise customers are looking to be released from owning and operating cost- and capital-intensive data centre and IT infrastructure and move to more cloud-like as a service, flexible model,’ says ServerFarm CEO Avner Papouchado.

Fresh off receiving a $200 million loan, data center development and colocation specialist ServerFarm has acquired London-based data center operator 5NINES Global Holdings in a move to expand its footprint and solutions into Europe.

“This acquisition not only extends our global data centre footprint, but also provides a platform to help more customers by repeating a well-proven model,” said ServerFarm CEO Avner Papouchado in a statement. “We built ServerFarm because we recognised that global enterprise customers are looking to be released from owning and operating cost- and capital-intensive data centre and IT infrastructure and move to more cloud-like as a service, flexible model.”

El Segundo, Calif.-based SeverFarm currently owns six data centers in Atlanta, Chicago, Oak Brook, Ill., Moses Lake, Wash., as well as centers in London and Toronto. 5NINES owns operational subsidiaries in the U.S., Finland, the Netherlands and the U.K., which will all become part of the ServerFarm brand.

The data center market is on fire in terms of the amount of acquisitions being made in 2019. The market is on pace to break the record this year after a whopping 52 data-center-oriented acquisitions closed in the first half of 2019, according to Synergy Research Group.

SeverFarm is a privately held company that develops, operates and leases data center space, owned by international real estate developer Red Sea Group. The company’s InCommand Services platform of data center and management solutions provides customers with end-to-end visibility and control over their IT and data center environments.

5NINES Global Holdings develops data center platforms that provide colocation and managed services. Both companies have agreed to jointly accelerate 5NINES Enterprise to Public offer that provides a reliable and flexible solution for global customers who are looking to remove existing data center assets and operations to move into a pure service model.

“This acquisition positions ServerFarm to help more customers around the world realize this objective, and our significant portfolio and services combined with 5NINES’ innovation will define how enterprise data centre owners deliver digital strategies for years to come,” said Papouchado.

This month, SeverFarm completed a $200 million credit facility led by TD Securities to accelerate growth by expanding the company’s reach, asset base and services capabilities. “As the market continues to evolve quickly, the opportunity for our unique mix of services has never been greater,” said Papouchado in a recent statement. “This partnership will enable us to maximize that opportunity for our customers, partners, shareholders and employees."
