Winslow Technology CEO: Dell’s Hybrid Cloud Is ‘Very Forward Thinking’

“We continue to believe the hybrid cloud is the answer, and we think Dell enables us as a partner to provide those kind of solutions,” said Scott Winslow, CEO of fast-growing solution provider Winslow Technology Group.

Fast-growing Winslow Technology Group (WTG) is betting big on hybrid cloud, which is why the solution provider is excited about Dell Technologies’ revamped cloud strategy.

“They’re very forward thinking in [hybrid cloud],” said Scott Winslow, president of WTG, a Waltham, Mass-based Dell Titanium partner and 2019 CRN Tech Elite 250 company, during the annual WTG Transform event in Boston on Friday. “You’d probably start with the existing products – the IDPAs, the Isilons, the Unitys, the SC Series type of [storage] products, the PowerMax, and the integration to the public cloud that they’ve put into those products we think is outstanding. So that allows for a hybrid cloud strategy. … And then out at Dell Technologies World they did introduce Dell Technologies Cloud, which is kind of in development, their own public cloud offering.”

Winslow said Round Rock, Texas-based Dell is “very progressive” in terms of enabling VMware to be available on public cloud titan Amazon Web Severcies. “You can spin up VM volumes on AWS. … We continue to believe the hybrid cloud is the answer and we think Dell enables us as a partner to provide those kind of solutions,” he said.

WTG, ranked No. 397 on CRN’s 2019 Solution Provider 500 list, was recently named on Boston Business Journal’s 2019 50 Fastest-Growing Private Companies in Massachusetts as revenue from 2015 to 2018 grew by 100 percent. Winslow expects even greater sales growth for his company over the next few years thanks in part to growing hybrid cloud sales.

The solution provider recently doubled down on hybrid cloud by creating its own IP cloud assessment tool to help customers find the most efficient solution to place their applications.

“Users are out there trying to figure out what applications belong where. ‘Does this application belong on the public cloud? Does this belong on a private cloud?’ So we’ve been big believers, as I think Dell is as well, in a hybrid cloud strategy,” Winslow said. “We use this tool to help customers figure out which applications go where. Then we typically design a hybrid cloud solution for them that could be around VxRail, it could be around XC Series with Nutanix, it could be around any of the Dell portfolio.”

Dell Technologies recently took the wraps off its new hybrid cloud platform, which includes VMware Cloud Foundation integrated with Dell EMC hardware.

In a recent interview with CRN, Dell’s global channel chief Joyce Mullen said the $91 billion infrastructure giant will be unleashing new incentives and rebates for the channel to drive cloud sales around the new platforms. “We’ll put together a combination of front-end and back-end incentives because that’s what works,” she said.

Winslow Technology Group has been betting big on Dell for years as the 16-year-old solution provider is witnessing unprecedented revenue growth year after year.

More than 200 customers, partners and executives from the likes of Dell, VMware and Nutanix were in attendance at WTG 15th annual Transform 2019 event Friday in Boston, across the street from historic Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox.

“IT’s just a great opportunity for our customers to kind of sharpen the sword, take a day out, learn about the latest technology, to kind of network with fellow practitioners in the industry, to have some fun and to thank them for the business,” said Winslow. “It’s our largest audience yet. The event continues to grow and grow, and we continue to grow and grow.”
