Syncro Launches Syncro Cloud Backup For Microsoft 365, Entra ID

‘Backing up just the data isn’t enough anymore. If you restore into an environment without your policies, roles and permissions, you’re not secure. Syncro Cloud Backup protects the infrastructure and the data, something most other vendors don’t address,’ says Michael George, Syncro CEO.

Syncro has launched Syncro Cloud Backup, an integrated backup and restore offering for Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Entra ID that helps MSPs protect critical identity and collaboration infrastructure environments.

The launch signals the vendor’s growing focus on identity protection and Microsoft-centric cyber resilience. By integrating cloud backup directly into its XMM platform, Syncro aims to reduce tool sprawl, increase technician efficiency and make advanced data protection more accessible to the SMB market.

“There are so many backup tools out there, but the market has been surprisingly bare when it comes to identity protection, particularly for Microsoft Entra ID,” Michael George (pictured), Syncro CEO, told CRN. “Backing up just the data isn’t enough anymore. If you restore into an environment without your policies, roles and permissions, you’re not secure. Syncro Cloud Backup protects the infrastructure and the data, something most other vendors don’t address.”

Unlike traditional backup vendors that may focus on devices or endpoints, Syncro Cloud Backup offers multi-tenant support for Microsoft 365 (including Exchange, SharePoint, OneDrive and Teams) and Entra ID infrastructure (users, groups, roles and policies). It enables MSPs to configure, monitor and restore from a unified interface, eliminating the need for disconnected third-party tools.

Kristen Costagliola, Syncro’s CTO, said that true integration, not just loosely tied tools, is the real innovation behind the release.

“Technicians spend their day in the PSA and RMM,” she told CRN. “We built backup right into that workflow—same interface, same platform. No extra logins, no additional learning curve. For years, the term ‘single pane of glass’ was a joke. But now, with backup, billing, policy management and security baselining all in one place, we’re finally delivering on that promise.”

The product supports automated user provisioning and billing , allowing MSPs to scale backup services without operational friction. MSPs can immediately pass backup costs on to customers based on the number of Microsoft 365 users, avoiding variable charges based on storage consumption.

“Unlimited storage under a fair use policy was a key decision,” Costagliola said. “MSPs need predictable pricing. They’re already billing customers by the number of Microsoft licenses. Backup should map cleanly to that.”

Unifying backup with the RMM and PSA capabilities of Syncro’s XMM platform helps MSP August eTech operate more securely and efficiently.

“The ability to protect a new client in minutes, with everything handled automatically, sets a strong foundation for a secure and resilient environment for our customers,” said Janice Mahlmann, CEO of Monmouth Junction, N.J.-based August eTech, in a statement.

Syncro Cloud Backup also complements Syncro XMM’s security baseline management and compliance monitoring , enabling MSPs to prevent and respond to threats, from intentional attacks to accidental missteps.

“Honestly, the most common incidents aren’t even malicious,” George said. “People delete mailboxes, disable MFA or misconfigure roles by mistake. This solution helps MSPs secure identities and infrastructure up front and gives them the ability to roll back fast when something goes wrong.”

The company’s broader road map continues to push toward simplifying Microsoft management for SMBs. “They’re betting on AI and cybersecurity,” he said. “Our job is to close the usability gap and to take these powerful tools and make them approachable, efficient and profitable for MSPs.”

With Syncro Cloud Backup, the company adds a major pillar to its XMM platform, which now spans RMM, PSA, Microsoft security management and backup.

“Our long-term vision is clear: fewer tools, more automation, better security,” Costagliola said. “This launch brings us closer to that goal, and it’s just the beginning.”
