Four vendors were dominant in sales of single-function and multifunction inkjet printers during the fourth quarter of 2019, as measured by sales based on distributor and reseller data. At the head of the pack was HP Inc., followed by Epson and Canon, according to The NPD Group of Port Washington, N.Y. The research firm tracks monthly technology sales-out information from the largest IT distributors and resellers in the U.S.

4. Brother

Japan-based Brother saw a slight erosion in its share of the market for single- and multi-function inkjet printers in the fourth quarter of 2019, based on distributor and reseller data. The company captured a 4.2-percent share of the market during Q4, according to The NPD Group. That was down from a 4.6-percent share during the same period a year earlier.

3. Canon

Japan-based Canon saw a much larger slide in its share of the market for inkjet printers during the fourth quarter. Canon dropped to 4.5 percent of inkjet printer sales based on distributor and reseller data, The NPD Group reported. That was well below the company's 11.7-percent share of the market during the fourth quarter of 2018. Canon did have one of the top-selling inkjet models during the quarter, with the multi-function PIXMA MG3620 ranking at No. 8 among the best sellers, according to The NPD Group.

2. Epson

Japan-based Epson was one of the winners in the inkjet market during the fourth quarter of 2019. The company saw its share of the market for single- and multi-function inkjet printer sales based on distributor and reseller data jump to 27.2 percent, The NPD Group reported. That was a solid increase from the company's results during the same quarter the year before, when Epson held a 23.9-percent share of the market, the firm said.

1. HP Inc.

Palo Alto, Calif.-based HP Inc. easily maintained its dominant position in the inkjet market during the fourth quarter, and also managed to expand its share. The company captured 64.1 percent of inkjet printer sales based on distributor and reseller data in Q4, up from 59.7 percent during the same period a year earlier, according to The NPD Group. Top-selling inkjet models for HP during the quarter included the multi-function OfficeJet 3830, the single-function OfficeJet Pro 8210 and the multi-function OfficeJet Pro 9010.
