AWS Transform Drives Microsoft Windows, VMware Migrations Faster With New Innovation

AWS launches new agentic AI innovation for AWS Transform to boost partner integration capabilities, accelerate Windows modernization and cut licensing costs, as well as fuel VMware migrations to AWS.

Amazon Web Services has revamped its agentic AI service Transform to accelerate cloud migrations and modernization of Microsoft Windows, VMware and mainframe environments for customers.

From new capabilities to drive VMware network migration and new AI that accelerates companywide code modernization to a new composability that lets partners integrate their own innovation in Transform—AWS is investing heavily in its Transform service.

“We just launched Transform Composability for partners to integrate their capabilities within Transform and now have a completely differentiated offer for customers,” said Ruba Borno, AWS’ global channel chief.

The new composability capability lets partners integrate their proprietary tools, AI agents and knowledge bases to build customized workflows for customers within Transform.

“So it’s not just either the partner’s capability or Transform to help a customer migrate—they work seamlessly together. And all that results in faster migrations for the customer, faster modernizations for the customers,” said AWS’ Borno, vice president of global specialists and partners. “That then translates to being able to take advantage of agentic AI at a faster clip.”

Transform can automate repeatable transformations of version upgrades, runtime migrations, framework transitions and language translations at scale.

Native Partner Integrations Within AWS Transform

AWS said Transform is the first agentic AI service for transforming Windows .NET applications, VMware systems and mainframes, with new enhancements that broaden customers’ ability to rapidly modernize legacy applications and code at scale.

Pega is one of the first partners to build new agents for AWS Transform aimed at delivering more effective and contextually relevant transformations for customers.

Pega Blueprint is a cloud application that leverages AI agentsto accelerate the design and development of workflow applications.

“We have native integrations between AWS Transform and Blueprint,” said John Higgins, chief of client and partner success at Pega.

“So the connections that we’re putting between our respective technology is really coming to bear on how we're going to market and enabling [customers] to use our products,” Higgins said. “How AWS goes to market with partners has been energizing.”

AWS Transform can scale modernization across hundreds or thousands of applications. The transformation agent automatically captures feedback and continues to improve over time, so each subsequent transformation becomes more reliable and efficient.

Transform Speeds Up Windows Modernization By 5X And Migrations To AWS

Unveiled at AWS re:Invent 2025, AWS Transform now provides an up to 5X acceleration of full-stack Windows modernization including .NET apps, SQL Server, user interface frameworks, and deployment layers into open-source, cloud-native solutions.

“Transform is a service that we actually provide to customers and to partners for free to be able to … migrate out of Windows .NET to AWS, and help customers with mainframe migrations,” said AWS’ Borno.

The AWS Transform agents analyze the complete Windows stack and propose coordinated modernization plans across all layers. The agent then transforms the application, user interface framework, database and operating system, while providing updates and transformation summaries.

The new capabilities enable the rapid modernization of full-stack Windows and SQL Server systems to open-source alternatives, freeing customers from sometimes costly licensing agreements and reducing operating costs by up to 70 percent, according to AWS.

“Being able to modernize their architecture allows them to take better advantage of all of the agentic capabilities,” Borno said.

New AWS Transform Innovation For VMware Migration

AWS launched new capabilities in Transform for VMwarethat simplify and accelerate large-scale discovery, planning and network migration.

This includes an agentic experience for iteration and migration flexibility, which customizes and orchestrates the entire process from assessment to deployment, as well as a new on-premises discovery tool with support for security reviews and inventory discovery.

In addition, a new migration planning agent applies business context using unstructured inputs, as well as newly enhanced network migration agentic capabilities that support advanced configurations and security technologies from Cisco ACI, Fortigate, and Palo Alto Networks.

Caylent Drives Modernization For Code, Apps And Software Development

All-star AWS partner Caylent has built its own application modernization offering on top of Transform, which is driving sales and successful customer outcomes.

Caylent’s Accelerate delivers AI-powered solutions that help customers migrate and modernize on AWS faster. The company recently modernized one of its customers’ entire code base thanks to Transform.

“We look at a customer’s code and leverage AWS Transform, as well as our own models and our own customization on top of Transform, to move legacy code into more modern implementation,” said Randall Hunt, CTO of Caylent. “Things like Java code, we’ve gotten really good at updating that.”

By combining AI-enabled planning with hands-on delivery and leveraging AWS Transform for VMware, Caylent helps customers reduce CapEx tied to data center renewals, cut OpEx from escalating VMware costs and redirect resources toward innovation.

“The application modernization side of it is not just about the code. It’s also about the software development life cycle and also the product development life cycle,” said Hunt. “We are now in a world where you can prototype a UI in a few minutes. So we’re no longer in an age where to test an idea, I have to wait and wait and wait.”

Other New Transform Innovation

AWS launched new agentic capabilities in Transform to accelerate organizationwide code and application modernization across any code, API, framework, runtime, architecture, language, and even company-specific programming languages and frameworks.

With prebuilt transformations for common patterns—such as Java and Python upgrades—and custom transformations for client-specific tasks, a specialized agent executes consistent and repeatable transformations.

Customers have used AWS Transform to analyze an estimated 1.1 billion lines of code and have saved more than 810,000 hours of manual effort, according to AWS.
