IT Downtime Is The Headache MSPs Need To Watch: Study Reveals 96% Of Enterprises Have Faced An Outage

LogicMonitor’s Chief Revenue Officer Mark Banfield discusses the benefits of a single monitoring platform for MSPs in light of a new survey that reveals 50 percent of IT downtime is avoidable.

Most enterprises have faced a costly IT outage, and many say the downtime was completely preventable, according to a new study by LogicMonitor.

The findings underline the important role an MSP has come to play in monitoring their customers’ data, an increasingly difficult task with the rise of hybrid IT.

“The environments they look after are rarely all cloud,” said LogicMonitor’s Chief Revenue Officer Mark Banfield. “They’re very hybrid. In fact, they are particularly on-premise and there’s a range of technologies they have to look after.”

The study surveyed 300 IT decision makers across North America, the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand. Of the 96 percent who experienced an outage, many ranked network failure, usage spikes, human error, software malfunction and infrastructure failure among the top causes. The findings suggest that it’s critical for MSP monitoring tools to offer more than just visibility.

“We will actually identify anomalies in the data,” said Banfield, describing the new artificial intelligence built into LogicMonitor’s SaaS-based monitoring platform. “We will identify problems…issues that exist and bring them to the forefront, right up front to the face of the IT operator so they can absolutely take action.”

Too often, MSPs rely on multiple monitoring platforms to get the job done. That not only adds cost and complexity, but multiple systems lack the visibility that a single platform provides. LogicMonitor’s platform gives MSPs granular visibility into resources, service and applications across infrastructure on-premise and in the cloud.
