Generative AI Is Like ‘The Advent Of Electricity’

Google is one company investing heavily in generative AI via its cloud computing arm Google Cloud. Kevin Ichhpurnai, vice president for Google Cloud’s global partner ecosystem and channels business, expects generative AI to play a bigger and more influential role in the world than most people can imagine.

“I have seen a lot of technology waves. This is not a hype cycle. The ROI is real,” Ichhpurani told CRN.

“Oftentimes they say, ‘This is like the iPhone moment.’ I think that’s a very poor comparison. It’s more like the advent of electricity. This is a true tectonic shift,” said Ichhpurani. “You can almost go into a meeting and never get off of this [generative AI] discussion because it’s front and center on every board agenda right now.”

Victor Raymond, CEO of Triumph Technology Solutions, echoed similar thoughts. “What generative AI feels like to me—it feels like the infancy of the internet. It feels like this is where the real change is going to happen,” he told CRN.

CRN breaks down the ten hottest generative AI tools and offerings in the market today that developers, channel partners, investors and companies of all shapes and sizes should know about.

Claude is a next-generation AI assistant based on Anthropic’s research into training helpful, honest, and harmless AI systems. Accessible through a chat interface and API in Anthropic’s developer console, Claude is capable of a variety of conversational and text processing tasks which can help users with coding, summarization, search, creative and collaborative writing, Q&A and more.

In May, Anthropic said Claude has the ability to analyze an entire book, like ‘The Great Gatsby’, in under a minute then interactively answer questions or analyze various meanings from the book.

AlphaCode

Owner: DeepMind (Google)

Focus: Coding Creation

AlphaCode can write computer programs DeepMind says that is on par with the average human programmer.

Deepmind, a Google subsidiarity, is aiming for autonomous coding. AlphaCode uses programming challenges to develop critical thinking, algorithms, coding, natural language understanding and logic.

With over 41 billion parameters, AlphaCode uses transformer-based language models to generate code at an unprecedented scale, the company says, then intelligently filters to a small set of promising programs. The generative AI tool has been trained in various programming languages, including C#, Ruby, Java, JavaScript, PHP, Go, and Rust, with its strongest capabilities in C++ and Python.

Jasper Campaigns

Owner: Jasper

Focus: Marketing Campaigns

In June, generative AI startup Jasper launched Jasper Campaigns which applies the company’s AI engine to allows users to create a full marketing campaign in minutes from a single brief.

Jaspers new Marketing Campaigns platform securely enriches data models with key company details and brand identity so clients can move quickly through their entire marketing strategy.

Jasper’s generative AI features includes content creation, SEO optimization, advertisement imagery creation, as well as its own API to let marketers integrate Jasper into their own platform. Jasper Campaigns goal is to enable users to create a unified brand across the company and maintain control over asset creation.

Bard

Owner: Google

Focus: Content Creation, Chatbot

Google’s competitive offering to OpenAI’s ChatGPT is Bard, the company’s conversational chatbot and content creation tool that runs on LaMDA and its new PaLM API.

One of the big differentiations between Google Bard and ChatGPT, is Google pulls its information from the internet, while ChatGPT relies on a dataset that goes up until late 2021.

Bard can create coding, help create content and solve highly complex math problems, as examples. In April, Bard was updated to support programming and development requirements like code debugging, generation, and explanation. Bard is on track to support 40 languages in the near future.

Cohere Generate

Owner: Cohere

Focus: Content Creation, LLM

Toronto-based AI startup Cohere raised hundreds-of-millions in funding this year thanks to its bullish generative AI strategy led by Cohere Generate.

Generate produces unique content for emails, landing pages, products descriptions and more, with the goal of helping businesses and users explore, search for, generate and act upon information in a more intuitive way.

The generative AI tool can write a blog itself, for example, after users provide a topic and prompt. The startup says no matter what level of experience a user has with machine learning and artificial intelligence, Cohere’s Command model makes it easy to generate text in applications.

GPT-3.5 Turbo (GPT API)

Owner: OpenAI
